Dirt Free Carpet · Houston, Texas · since 1989

The soap is the reason it gets dirty again.

Every other carpet cleaner leaves detergent in your floor. It stays sticky, it grabs whatever walks in on your shoes, and your carpet grays over faster than it did before anybody cleaned it. We have never used soap. We rinse out whatever the last company left, and we prove it on a free test spot in your worst room before you owe us anything.

The whole argument

Nothing goes into your carpet that we would not drink ourselves.

That is not a slogan somebody wrote for us. Aubrey Thoede spent about two years in the 1980s building a cleaner with no detergent in it, patented the result, and has been demonstrating how safe it is on Houston television by drinking it on air. He did it on Houston Life. He did it on KHOU’s Great Day Houston. He would do it again tomorrow.

The reason it matters is not really safety. It is that soap is what ruins carpet.

What actually happens when a normal cleaner leaves.

  1. The detergent never fully rinses out.

It is designed to cling. That is what makes it lift soil in the first place, and it is why a rinse with a small machine cannot get all of it back.

  2. What stays behind is sticky.

Your carpet looks superb for a fortnight. Underneath, every fiber is now coated in something that holds on to dirt.

  3. Then it grays over faster than before.

The soil that walks in on shoes stops passing through and starts sticking. This is the re-soiling people blame on their carpet, and it is not the carpet.

  4. So the first thing we do is take theirs out.

Rinsing the previous company’s residue out of the pile is a named step on every job, not an upsell. After that there is nothing left in the fiber at all, which is the entire point.

Read the long version: why your carpet gets dirty faster after it has been cleaned.

A cleaned strip drawn through dull carpet pile, the cleaning wand at the head of the lane and the hose running back out through the front door

One pass, and the line it leaves

You will see the difference at the edge of the first lane.

This is what the free test spot is for. We clean a patch in the worst area you have, you look at where the cleaned pile meets the pile we have not touched yet, and then you decide whether we carry on. Every job since 1989 has started this way. If that edge does not convince you, we pack up and there is nothing to pay.

And the other six

Same truck, same cleaner, different surface.

Hard surfaces

Tile and grout
High pressure cleaning that takes the grout lines back toward the color they were laid at. Sealing available afterwards.
Natural stone
Marble, travertine and granite. Polishing, honing, sealing and scratch removal, across all the stone types a Houston house is built with.

Soft surfaces

Upholstery
Sofas, chairs and fabric pieces, with spot pre-treatment, deodorizing and fabric protection. The same cleaner, so the same absence of residue.
Area and oriental rugs
Color-safe testing first, then fringe care and hand washing on request. Free pickup and delivery, so a fine rug can be cleaned off site.
Carpet repairs
Seams, burns, patches and stretching. Thirty-seven years of doing this means most of it can be repaired rather than replaced.

Whole building

Air ducts
Dust, allergens and debris pulled out of the HVAC system, which is worth booking alongside the carpet rather than as its own trip.
Commercial
Offices, retail and anywhere that cannot close during the day. After hours scheduling and maintenance contracts.

Why the truck matters

The machine is not in the room. It is at the kerb, and it is a diesel engine.

Most carpet cleaning is done with a portable unit that carries ten or twenty gallons and plugs into your wall. Ours carries around three hundred and fifty gallons and runs off a diesel engine on the truck. It is not a bragging point, it is the reason the pile is nearly dry when we leave: far more of the water we put in comes back out again.

Two neighbors, in their own words

We are only going to show you the ones we can point at.

These are recommendations left on Nextdoor by people in Cypress and Houston, and they are reproduced word for word. They are not star ratings, so we have not put stars on them. Two verifiable sentences from actual neighbors is a smaller number than most cleaning companies advertise, and it is a real one. Both of them, independently, mention the cleaning being done without chemicals.

They do a great job on my carpet without chemicals and they just cleaned my tile. It's the best I've ever had.

They do a good job on carpet. Use a non chemical cleaner.

That is the whole set. When there are more we can source, they will go here, and not before.

Where our proof comes from

Asked most often

The questions people ring up with.

Because of what the last cleaner left in it. Most carpet cleaning uses a detergent, and detergent does not fully rinse out. What stays behind in the fiber is sticky, so it holds onto the soil that walks in on your shoes, and the carpet grays over faster than it did before it was cleaned. Dirt Free does not use soap or detergent at all, and part of every job is rinsing out the residue a previous cleaner left.

Before you owe anything, we clean a patch in the worst area you have. You look at it, and then you decide whether we carry on. Every job has started that way since 1989. If the result does not convince you, we pack up and there is no charge.

Usually one to six hours rather than the day or two you may be used to. Two things do it: a diesel truck-mounted unit at the kerb pulls far more water back out of the pile than a portable machine can, and a speed-dry system runs after the clean.

It is a patented organic compound with no harsh chemicals and no detergent in it, developed by our founder Aubrey Thoede. He has demonstrated how safe it is on Houston television by drinking it on air, on Houston Life and on KHOU's Great Day Houston.

Call us within seven days of an approved test spot and we come back out to deal with it at no charge.

We work Greater Houston out to roughly fifty miles, which covers Katy, Cypress, Tomball, Spring, Sugar Land, Pearland and The Woodlands as well as the city itself. Call and ask; the truck travels.

Yes, and that line answers around the clock. We run industrial extraction and drying and start on mold prevention from the moment we arrive.

Yes. Fine and oriental rugs get color-safe testing and fringe care, hand washing on request, and free pickup and delivery so the rug can be cleaned off site.

Price is quoted per room, and it is quoted after you have seen what the cleaner does to your worst one. More on that in how the clean is done.

Start where it is worst

Pick the room you would not show anybody, and let us clean a patch of it.

It costs you nothing and it settles the argument faster than this page can. If the edge between the patch and the rest of the floor does not convince you, we pack up and there is no charge. That is how every job has started here since 1989.
